Satbayev University and Purdue University are launching a micro-qualification program in mechanical engineering with the support of Caterpillar Foundation

To strengthen the practical training of engineering personnel and introduce relevant industrial skills, Satbayev University is implementing the joint project with Purdue University (USA) – MTPEP (Micro-qualification Training Program for Engineering Profile). Program is aimed at developing students' applied competencies in mechanical engineering through short, integrated micro-courses. Caterpillar Foundation provides financial support in the amount of 100 thousand US dollars.

As part of the project, Satbayev University has already received new equipment: NPC lathes and milling machines, which will be used for practical training of students. On the given machines, students will master the skills of programming, setting up and operating equipment, which will provide a direct link between academic education and modern production.

Project is based on international expertise: Purdue University is among the top 10 public universities in the USA and ranks 19th in the world in Mechanical Engineering (QS by Subject 2025), and 89th in the overall QS world ranking.

Within the framework of the program, three micro-qualifications relevant to the 鶹Ƶ industry have been identified:

  1. Reverse Engineering Design Engineer
  2. 3D Modeling Specialist (3D CAD Specialist)
  3. Operator of numerically controlled machine tools (CNC Machine Operator)

"Micro-qualification program, which we are launching together with the best universities and world leaders in the field of mechanical engineering, gives students access to the best practices in engineering and becomes another step at Satbayev University towards creating the applied education focused on industry needs," says Ruslan Mukanov, head of Polytech-point educational and production laboratory.

Micro-courses topics were chosen based on the analysis of the labor market and consultations with industrial partners. All three directions were confirmed by the employers – Almaty Heavy Machinery Plant, Borusan Makina, Eurasia Resource Group, LLP DOC Co. LTD, Alageum Electric, MGN Group - during Purdue University delegation’s visit in July 2025.
